The Stand
The stand is of very simple construction. It consists of a wooden base, PVC pipe pole and a metal mounting bracket that was still on the traffic light when I got it.
The wooden base
The base is two pieces of plywood screwed together. I did it this way so that I could make a groove for the power cord to be hidden inside the base. To build it I rough cut the plywood into square sheets that were just big enough to get the circle I wanted out. Then I drilled a hole in the center, and using a jig for my router cut out the circles. Again using the router I made a groove on one piece just big enough for the power cord. Using the holes drilled earlier I joined the two pieces together with screws and glue. Next, I ran the router around it to clean up the edge and put a curve on it. Finally, I put a little stain on and called it a day.
The Pole
This was very simple. I just measured how big the metal mount was on the bottom of the light and stopped at the hardware store to try and find some pipe that would fit it. There I found not only a pipe that would fit it, but a rotating union. This was perfect because it allowed me to easily connect it to my base while allowing it to rotate too. A little spray paint and a switch finished this up quite nicely. I do wish that I had been able to find a switch that more resembled a "push to walk" button, but I don't turn it on very often so the pull word works.
